After owning and operating a San Antonio shop for well over 10 years, Michael Hawes has passed his experience on to others. Helping them with the knowledge and skills it takes to own their very own off road center. The people at ORI give future shop owners the opportunity to turn their hobby into a successful career. They are given a well-known name, showroom design, and set up with distributors and the skills it takes to be successful in the automotive 4x4 industry.
Performance Off Road was established in 1991 as a custom fab shop for local 4x4 enthusiasts, in San Antonio, Texas. When the word was out it turned into a full blown off road super store. Performance Off Road at that time was the only shop in the San Antonio area that specialized in truck, jeep and sport utility vehicle accessories. Since then the automotive accessory business has grown to be very popular. I really believe in family business which is the type of business our customers have grown to love. Having great customer service - by knowing your product, having good employees and keeping a clean shop is what has made our off road centers what they are today.
In 2000, Performance Off Road opened its first sister store (ORI) Off Road Innovations. Off Road Innovations has the same concept as Performance Off Road with different signage as well as color combinations. ORI's colors are black and yellow and Performance Off Road's are red and white. This will give our future shop owners an option.
1. IS THIS A FRANCHISE?
No. Our stores are set up as Licensed Dealers. Off Road, Inc. does not charge monthly or yearly royalties. It is a one time buy in.
2. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Every shop is different. Until we know the type of building for example. Are you leasing or building a new store? What size is your showroom? That determines how much merchandise you stock. If you’re leasing, what is the finish out costs? The total average cost if you are leasing, including buy in are typically $85,000 - $170,000.
3. DO YOU FINANCE?
We do not offer in house financing, but we have put together third party unsecured financing for future store owners. We also have a SBA Representative that can help build your portfolio to present to your bank, designed for the automotive retail business.
4. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OPEN A STORE?
Off Road, Inc. is excited about our growth; the average time from funding is approximately 6 – 8 weeks.
5. DO YOU OFFER PROTECTED TERRITORIES?
Yes, territory mile radiuses are determined by population.
6 DO YOUR STORES DO INSTALLATIONS?
Yes, typically our stores install everything we sell.
7. HOW MANY EMPLOYEES DO WE NEED?
That depends on the size of your store as well as population. We recommend you maintain at least one certified technician and a good salesperson. It’s easy to add employees as business increases. Off Road, Inc. can assist in the interviewing process while we are in town setting up your new Off Road store.
8. WHAT IS THE TYPICAL SUCCESS RATE OF AN OFF ROAD STORE?
Off Road, Inc. will teach you all of the tools to go forward. It’s up to you where you take it from there. Just remember, what you put in it is what you will get out of it. There is no guaranteed success in any business. Only you know if you have what it takes.
